There isn't any record, letter, report or anything much at all that mentions him except for the Bible. The Roman Empire was all through that region. The walking on water, raising the dead, feeding of the multitudes, etc, etc would be headline items in any culture. I guess you can blame it all on the liberal media not covering the story, but... Remember that what became the Catholic Church took over the Roman Empire. They would have loved to've gotten their hands on any such documentation. After I did that post, I realized that the reason Jesus allegedly was born in a manger was because his parents were on their way to pay taxes. If they had such records for tax purposes, then it stands to reason there must be some written record that he existed if for no other reason then to pay his taxes. Maybe that's what the atheist meant. If there were no tax [secular] records, then he really didn't exist.FWIW, I think there actually was an individual who preached what Jesus is supposed to have preached about 2k years ago in that region. But some of his followers, as True Believers are wont to do, embellished the story somewhat. Personally I don't think his message or teachings needed any embellishing. But PR and spin are not a modern invention... I agree. However, my sense was that there were a lot people going around back then preaching and pretending to be prophets. You have to wonder why Jesus stood out from the crowd. Then again, he may be an almost entirely fictional character loosely based on some person back then. ted
