So what? Money that I've made at work and then spent at a store and charged sales tax for has already been taxed, too. As each new person/entity derives benefit from it, it's taxed. Why is that a problem?

That's because in the state of the comrades that was the way things were done. By taking a short cut that was, kill the guy and confiscate what he owns. Or confiscate first,next send him to Gulag for "free" labor for the homeland and then kill him.
