My apartment has electric heating and there is nothing I can do about it. The bill is big in January and February here in upstate NY. Growing up we had electric heating because my Dad (an engineer) was scared of gas blowing up or leaking. We had a storage heater which is popular in Britain as electricity was cheaper at night time when there is less demand. So it heated up this big pile of bricks and then blew air over them during the day. Britain has a similar mix of electricity fuel sources as the US.
