Most of the information available about this ancient religion, the favorite of Roman soldiers, comes to us from the two volumes by Belgian scholar Franz Cumont, Textes et monuments figurés relatifs aux mystères de Mithra (1896 and 1899). More recently, David Ulansey has added to the dicussion with his The Origins of the Mithraic Mysteries: Cosmology and Salvation in the Ancient World. Roman Mithraism was a mystery religion with sacrifice and initiation. Like other mystery cults, there's little recorded literary evidence. What we know comes mainly from Christian detractors

I'm reading the site and it sure does not seem like Christianity, what with the bull and the scorpion and the dogs and the snake.....

I dunno J Chris.

Having only read about this on two websites, and only for an hour, I have a hard time believing any of it.

I know you expect me to say that since I have stated I believe Jesus is our risen Lord, but the "research" is at best far fetched and speculative.

Lots of holes to fill. I'll keep reading. But, right now, this is equivalent to roman mythology more than Christianity.
