Kerry lost for two reasons: Kerry and the people who said they were going to vote for him but did not vote at all. Kerry played it "safe" and ended up looking like a stiff, insincere weanie -- he looked better as time went on, but the damage was done. The second reason for losing is even more basic -- opinion polls don't matter if those with the opinion are too pathetic to act on their opinions. The only opinion that counts on election day is the opinion of those who vote -- everybody else becomes a meaningless bystander. The youth of America were looking for a leader -- they were not sure they found it in Kerry, even if they hated Bush. And in the end they just did not bother to do something about their own future -- they did not bother to vote. In a democracy, you get what you deserve - and for those who opposed Bush but did not vote, they deserve four more years.
