lol - I tried exactly that on my laptop because the same icon is appearing in the startup tray on that one too. It is still there after the restore (but I can't be absolutely certain that it wasn't there prior to the updates - I know it definitely was never on this desktop computer), but I did not install that "kill the messenger" program on the laptop - I will try it there and see what happens.

I also had MSN 6.2 installed and had it set to run on startup but it wouldnt log in becuase MSN 4.7 had allready signed me in. So i did a little more research and found out what to do. 1. Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove programs > Add/Remove windows components > then scroll down and uncheck the windows messenger box. 2. Start > Run \| then type: RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\INF\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove This will totally remove MSN 4.7 and ask you to restart your computer. Im not sure why windows has MSN 4.x built into its OS and i dont know why it doesnt atomatically remove itself or get replaced when you upgrade to a 6.x version. I think it might have something to do with the .net setup. If anyone else knows, please respond to this post. I hope this works for you guys. annoyances.org
