I do not know. However, a look at the pics seems to support the higher number. They are pretty graphic.

As for the Chinese winning? I am not sure that can be called a victory but if I remember correctly, the Rape of Nanking took place in 1937. The Chinese did not 'win' until 1945. How much damage do you think the Japanese did during the interim?
