End of the world game (4) STEAM CARS !

Steam cars were great!

Very very fast. Mechanically simple -- no need for a transmission. And they run on absolutely anything -- anything that can boil water.

Their main problems were

- never mass produced on the scale of Model T

- quick start steam only introduced toward the end of the 1920s (in the days before the gasoline car self-starter, hand cranking was dangerous, and waiting for steam to build up was preferable)

- needed water frequently, which was easier early on where there were many horses (and horse troughs for steam drives to siphon)

Having a car that will run on anything will be very appealing in the post-oil age.
