Chuck Hagel could distinguish himself by voting "no". Chuck is a pretty honest guy, fairly moderate and bipartisan, and the horror stories about Bolton are quite nauseating. Hagel knows he can't control the far right anyway, so why pander to the UN haters? He might as well try to play to the middle where McCain and Romney are as well and distinguish himself as a man who makes difficult choices but does the right thing.

If the Delay disaster continues and Bush's policies continue tanking, the middle is the winning move for any smart or honest republican. McCain might have damaged himself by siding with Bush too often (at least for show).
