Canon cuts 2005 chip stepper target by 13 percent Wed Apr 27, 2005 02:29 AM ET TOKYO, April 27 (Reuters) - Canon Inc. (7751.T: Quote, Profile, Research) on Wednesday lowered its 2005 target for shipments of semiconductor steppers to 125 units from its prior estimate of 143. Steppers are used to etch circuitry onto semiconductors and liquid crystal displays (LCDs). Canon ranks third in chip steppers behind Japan's Nikon Corp. (7731.T: Quote, Profile, Research) and ASML Holding NV (ASML.AS: Quote, Profile, Research) (ASML.O: Quote, Profile, Research) of the Netherlands. Canon shipped 152 chip steppers last year. Canon also raised its LCD stepper shipment target for 2005 to 111 units from its previous target of 104. Canon shipped 85 LCD steppers last year. Nikon is the only other major producer of LCD steppers.

ASML Wins Contract with ProMOS for New Fab in Taiwan Tuesday May 3, 8:00 am ET VELDHOVEN, Netherlands--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 3, 2005--ASML Holding NV (ASML) today announced that it had won a contract from ProMOS Technologies (ProMOS or the Company), a leading memory manufacturer, to supply lithography equipment to its new 300 mm wafer fab in Taiwan. This contract increases the presence of ASML in the Taiwanese memory market which produces one-fifth of the world's DRAM devices. No financial details are being disclosed. "Our new facility and the systems supplied by ASML will be at full production for the anticipated market growth in 2006."
