Peter, I'm probably not telling you anything you don't already know, but much of that testing is done because the patient wants it done for reassurance's sake and the insurance company pays for it, it generates a reliable stream of revenue for the medical facility, but--most importantly--the physician/medical facility is CYAing, in case a malpractice action should rear its ugly head, and it has been thus for about the last 30-plus years.

Physicians actually talking to their patients? Now there's a novel idea. I wonder if it will catch on? <g> - Holly
