There were three tigers who lived peaceably among the water buffalos. They all got along very well. The tigers loved to show their fierceness and skill to the water buffalos who rewarded them generously. They practiced daily and became quite adept at putting on their show. One day while traveling on a train, the car that they were on derailed. They found themselves in the wilderness.

Soon a strange tiger appeared on the edge of the wilderness, offering to join them. So the three tigers figured it was time to earn their keep and began putting on their show. They growled fiercely, the first one jumped through a flaming hoop, the second stood on a tiny pedestal, the third one balanced a ball on his nose. Then they all three began smiling and bowing.

The strange tiger wasn’t applauding. So, they asked him why he wasn’t impressed with all the great tricks they had worked so hard to master. He murmured only that they had forgotten who they are as he disappeared from the clearing, and left them to parish in their foolishness.
