Trying to sum up the main point as simply as possible -

It is less then optimum to have taxes be as high as possible/acceptable because the higher taxes get the more economic harm they do and the more they reduce individual freedom.


How about this one:

It is optimum to have taxes as high (or low) as generally acceptable by the majority of tax payers.

Any higher than that reduces the aggregated fiscal intake while at the same time causing harm to the economy and reducing individual freedom beyond what is necessary to obtain a tax optimum.

Any lower than that is fiscal stupidity.
