Dear NITT:

By those rules, both AMD and Intel were unprofitable in flash. Both also look like the lost the same amount of sales Q4 to Q1. That probably means that Intel along with AMD had higher losses in Q1. Yes, both were likely marginally profitable in Q1. But with higher fixed expenses, Intel likely lost more absolute money in flash.

As to Intel making money overall, you can tell that they didn't by looking at Cash, Assets or Stockholder's Equity. All three dropped with the later being around $600 million. The book value dropped per share as well. The only ones to make money are those that sold their shares to Intel, all 108 million shares worth collectively $2.5 billion. And that is not good for those of us who continue to hold Intel shares.

May be that those who sold are smarter than my Mutual fund managers. I wouldn't hold Intel at these prices.

Pete

I do notice that Intel didn't break down operating profits by division like they used to. It is even harder to see what flash's division ICG did. That is not good as more information is better than less.

NITT

My guess is the product line is unprofitable by that set of rules.

Congrats to you. You're the only one willing to admit you're guessing.

I have no clue what Intel did in flash profit or loss

Neither does anyone else here but that doesn't stop them from claiming they do.
