It is understandable that Doctors want to use lab results generated in their own lab. It means they have consistent results. Their organization is in charge of quality control. Most Doctors are reluctant to release the lab results to patients.

How many times does one patient see ten different doctors in rapid succession and get ten different CBCs? We know that this is not efficient use of medical reimbursement. If the patient was direct pay, they would only want to pay for one, and strongly request all other doctors use those results. Even if a CBC is only $6, there are other duplicated results.

Doctors also like to use their own lab because it may speed the results. Another reason is because it is a profit center.
