Explosion on Copperbelt, 52 people feared dead

OVER 50 people are feared dead at an explosive company in Chambishi, a tiny Copperbelt town located twenty kilometers north west of Kitwe City.

According to eye witnesses in Chambishi, the explosion occured around 10:00 hours Zambian time at a Chinese owned explosive company,BGRIM and affected other surrounding companies including NFC Mines, Chambishi Metals and Dyno Nobel.

"The accident happened this morning in chambishi affectting chambishi mines, Chambishi metals and a chinese explosive company, about 52 people are reported to have died on the spot," said a source from the Copperbelt.

The minister of mines is reported to have already visited the accident scene where buildings and equipment worth millions of dollars have been damaged.

How many do the Chinese kill in their unsafe mines in a year. The stories I have followed suggest they should shut down half of the mines they own until proper safety procedures are installed.
