When I was in college, my first major was psychology. In studying personality types, one we discussed were sociopaths. These are people with no social conscience. It's estimated they comprise about 5% of the population. Most end up in prison or marginalized in some other way. Some of the more intelligent of them use their "gifts" to rise to high positions in the corporate and political world. Maybe even the highest.

Good point. It seems that the reason Bolton is so attractive as our UN guy is because he is so abrasive, so unreasonable, so intimating, so incapable of empathy and seeing the other side of things. Just like the neocons believe that government should be reduced to the size where it can drown in a bathtub, they believe that Bolton can mortally wound the UN.
