Thats there Latino problem fot the church in a nutshell as evangelicals move in. It turns out that they are more liberal than the Catholic church is (eg allow divorce, clergy can marry, less form more one on one with the Lord).. PS Eastern Ortho same problem in russia.

surely there are other ways to practice religion outside the Catholic church that supports their beliefs They're like little kids that don't want to eat their dinner before they get dessert, and don't want to take naps, and don't want to take baths, and are going to hold their breath until they turn blue and have a tantrum. The thing they long for most in this world is firm guidance and strong boundaries. Otherwise, you're right, they'd leave the Church. It's not like they don't have other options.
