MANILA: President Pervez Musharraf has said that people of Pakistan are religious but not extremists.

During a meeting with editors of newspapers in Manila on breakfast, Musharrraf said that wrong perceptions prevailed in West and Pakistan as the each side consider other as an enemy.

He said that suicide attacks were made due to ignorance, as there is no room for suicide attacks in Islam.

Presdient also indicated misperceptions about Jihad in the West. Musharraf referred Dr. Aamir Liaquat, a member of his entourage, as a representative of the new face of Islam. “The image of Jihad presented in the west is far from the reality”, he said.
