Well, yes, of course the vanity reasons are important. But the addiction process is so strong that by the time you have yellow teeth and you look 20 years older than nonsmokers your own age and you stink to high heaven to boot, I think it might be almost impossible to quit. I think young women who start smoking don't imagine that they will still be smoking when they are old enough to have suffered that much damage. I think most young people make a calculated assumption they will smoke for pleasure and quite before the negative consequences really take hold. By then it is very difficult. And at that advanced point, I think the threat of actually dying might be most compelling at getting you to quit. But I don't really know.
