Ted, rather than waste time trying to pop your bubble, I'll simply refer you to "The Jesus Seminar," a group of self-described intellectuals who reviewed the historical evidence of Jesus' works and came to their own conclusions:

Everyone in "The Jesus Seminar" are nothing but a bunch of skeptics, but at least they acknowledge Jesus' existence. Compared to you, they're virtual saints!

Thanks. I am not sure they were skeptics. Reading the intro, they sound like religious scholars who want to clear some things up re. Jesus. In fact, at one point, some concern is expressed that some in the seminar will think their approach is blasphemous.

Can you summarize their findings in brief? I plan to read it but it looks to be a long read.

BTW I am genuinely surprised by some of the things I've learned recently re. Jesus. I never knew there were questions over whether he even lived or over the existence of Nazareth. I had always believed that the only issue was whether he was the savior and not simply a prophet or religious leader. It came as a real shock to me to here about the other stuff.
