Animals who are different may be killed- heck, they may even be eaten by others of their own species. Have humans done that? Sure. In the Pacific Islands when invaders came they often ate all the males, and took all the females as mates. I like to think we've evolved a little since that time. I think we can always go retrograde- but if we have the choice, and if we think about it, we probably should choose not to. If people are different, and not hurting anyone else, I say appreciate the difference. I am thrilled to see a flower or a bird that is unusual- I try to think of people that way. What is unusual is a gift. It takes absolutely no imagination or insight or effort to appreciate the normal- in fact, we rarely ever even wake to the normal. Most of us just slide through our normal days, sliding by normal people, without comprehending or noticing the passage. I think what is different wakes you up- and maybe, if you are lucky, you start noticing everything, and you start to notice that even the kids who appear like everyone else, really aren't. Some people don't appear spectacularly different, but it's only a trick of the light, or camouflage.
