Great article, Ray ! I think the some of these privatization guys have oligarch envy - they want to be like the Russian oligarchs.

Haven't followed Ecuador in detail - they did have a really crazy President, then over a few years a series of natural disasters, including:
Drought
Earthquakes
Volcanic Eruptions
and more Earthquakes.

They also managed to blow up their currency, and went part way to dollarization...then back, or something.

This and other actions and proclamations by the current US regime remind me irresistibly of the Greater Eastern Prosperity Sphere. As we now know, Japan didn't invade China, they "entered" it, and their motives were the very best - it was for China's own benefit.
