Mike, If we meant to procreate whenever we wanted to enjoy the process, the world would be, totally, covered by human beings. As it is, that is one of the reasons that Mexicans, and Italians, have more kids than they can provide for.

michael, Augustine taught that sexual desire was not present in man originally. It arose as a result of the sin of disobedience. Man's soul was now deprived of its original mastery over the body. Before man's fall, procreation was a deliberate act of will, like a handshake. Spontaneous sexual arousal was clear evidence of the effect of original sin. He also taught that original sin was transmitted in the semen. Jesus was therefore the only person not contaminated by original sin as he was conceived by the Holy Ghost. Now you see how Adam's fall caused sexual desire, not God. If it were not for Adam's transgression the sex act would be no more pleasurable than a handshake. Three cheers for Adam!

Probably relates to Darwins Survival of the Fittest theories. Sex takes a lot of energy and time. If it wasnt enjoyable who would want to do it? Early man needed to procreate as death rates were very high. Thus the URGE developed. Same is true why women often seek strong men and men seek beautiful woman. Frankly, looks are really not important in the big scheme BUT it again all goes back to species wishing to ensure survival through picking the fittest of their kind. We have no need for that stuff anymore BUT we cant help it, its in our genes. jdn
