Since transportation is the major user of oil, I think that's why the focus on H2 as a possible replacement fuel... a solution is needed within the area of transportation.

Battery development has not progressed like people were hoping for.

The post-1950's decentralization of American population (suburbia mostly) has created unique challenges for our society that don't exist to the same degree in places like Europe where more of the central city infrastructure has been maintained.

I think of hydrogen as a battery type technology. It is a way to store and transport energy. I would like to see a ton of $ spent on the development of super batteries. Storage capacity relative to size and weight, recycle time and number of recycles as well as fast high voltage drain capacity all need to be improved.
