That's an interesting study. It doesn't surprise me. There are lots of risk factors for pancreatic cancer, including a family history, alcohol abuse, and smoking cigarettes. It is not surprising that heavy meat intake, particularly smoked meats, would also be. It seems like the pancreas is a very susceptible organ. I don't think we are really going to see many studies showing red meat, or processed meat, as a health benefit in the future. It is turning out that the same plant-based diet, heavy on anti-oxidants, is an anti-cancer, anti-heart disease, anti-diabetes diet. Choose one healthy diet and dramatically reduce your risk of all of these diseases. Or eat a meat-based diet and have a 50% risk of dying of heart disease, like Americans do. Do most Americans even realize that our diet is actively killing us? I guess not.
