I pretty much see the point you are making about suffering, and I agree that it should be minimized.

I do not think animals suffer in quite the same way humans do, neurologically speaking, primarily in duration. I think their nerves are duller, or their endorphins stronger.

I've seen animals return to a normal routine after an injury that would have humans crying for weeks. Castration and branding, for example, must be very painful for the animal. But they do not brood over it or "lick their wounds."

Please, I don't want a discussion about those examples. I just wanted to illustrate my point.
