Hunting, as odd as it sounds, helps the animals in question become a stronger healthier breed.

The whitetail deer pop in MO was very low, so low that they severely restricted hunting. 20 years later, we don't even need tags except to keep track of how many deer are taken and they have a bonus season for anterless only. Deer pop is extremely vigorous and healthy. Large deer and lots of deer are good signs. All due to conservation and hunting.
