Rather than paraphrase the teachings of the Church I commend to you a smallish pamphlet, Humanae Vitae, and whatever else appeals to you on the Vatican web site, which is excellent

I tried to read it and could not make heads or tails of it. Deliberate contraceptive intercourse is bad, but taking advantage of periods of natural infertility for the purpose of regulating births, that's a beautiful thing, extolled in much flowery rhetoric. Isn't that sex? Isn't it contraceptive sex? Beats me.

The catholics aren't against medical intervention in other things. I never heard of an encyclical against the use of insulin to regulate blood sugar. What's different about a woman's hormones? Do Catholics allow fertility treatments, which also regulate hormones?
