rruff, you must admit it is interesting that there also is counterfeit longs out there causing companies to be on the sho list. They are not really counterfeit and are in most cases just the market maker making a market in the stock. If you want to buy it they sell it to you even if they dont own it. MM's have worked this way for years. Its part of the market making function.

Abuse of this function should be punished if a MM is going short a stock and creating a short which does not serve as a bonified marked function is my take.
