Attractive ? Maybe but taking the place of oil? That's wishful thinking. The technology isn't here . Perhaps if we were working on it seriously ten or fifteen years ago.

Unless you're advocating an all electric future ..
Try running your car on solar,wind,nuclear, etc ..
We're not at peak oil .. we're at peak transport fuels ..
ie peak cheap light sweet crude ..
That's the short term problem ..
