I think there was a person named Jesus about that time. He was an Essene and wanted to eliminate the cruft that Judaism had accumulated. I personally think his message about being the son of God was closer to we are all the children of God, i.e. we all are equal in the eyes of God. In other words, he was a Populist. He managed to irritate someone with power and they arranged to have him killed by the state. If he wasn't specifically sent to spread a message, the God I believe in took him in later. I think God has a soft spot for those whose sacrifice for others... Even if your version is true, why is there no secular evidence of his existence? That's what blows me away. Presumably, one of the most important people in human history and there is nothing to validate his existence.I don't buy into the miracles. Those were high profile items that would have gotten a lot of press. I think the True Believers promoted those to make him look more connected than he was. Sadly, they didn't think his message would stand on its own. Maybe they were right, but I still think it is sad. Actually, I think the message would have held up over time.....look at Buddha and Mohammad. Neither are credited with performing miracles. However, I think Christians have never quite believed in "The Message of the Christ figure". I think, in part, that self doubt led to the Inquisition and other atrocities perpetuated by Christiandom.I like the message I get from the New Testament. I don't like what many do with it. But that is my personal belief. I agree. I think the teachings are invaluable. However, I think its easier for modern man to accept them at point blank than it was for the ancients. Life was much tougher back then. ted
