Because his movement didn't become a big deal until after his death.


I guess that's possible. However, you would think that his disciples would have written something at the time. None of the 4 gospels were written any where near his death.....I think the first one was written 20 years after. And of course, there are claims that they were not written by his disciples at all.

Nonetheless, I guess its plausible what you say.

According to the Gospels it did, no? I haven't read 'em myself, but from quotes I've seen, there were supposedly people coming in from miles away and trampling each other to see Jesus. Not to mention all of the miracles, and natural disasters and stuff... Sounds like a big deal to me.
