America was pissed at Trudeau. LOL. Maybe they are getting back at him with the border being closed:)

The entire Country was doing well? America tanked, Canada followed. You think interest rates shot up to 20% because of that energy bill? Please....

So were you a original Re-Form member?

There was a lot of nanny-state intervention going on all over in the days of Trudeau ... Heath, Wilson, Callaghan, pretty much all the english speaking world, all over Europe, Johnson's Just Society in the US ... it wasn't just Trudeau, though he did this stuff with a particular arrogance .... albertans are sometimes seen as arrogant, quite conscious of their oil money when they're talking to the rest of the country, yelling 'let the eastern bastards freeze in the dark' probably didn't help that .... tends to erode the sympathy account of one's political capital, and will likely be a problem for any albertan with prime ministerial ambitions, even if he hadn't gotten up on a stage at the sikh new year today and given out with a juicy so-con sound byte

One thing about oil i could never understand, is what is the hurry to pump it all out and sell it cheap and get it all burned up now ... the people with the last million barrels will make a lot more than the people selling a million barrels today, that sheik Yamani guy had a bad analogy, oil is not stones, the oil age will die from lack of oil

Note how Houston tanked at the same time, and has never really recovered .... and interest rates going to the sky, as fresc points out .... there was a lot more to it than the NEP, but that's where the ire gets focussed i guess .... cheers
