I have posted about that chart elsewhere on SI - it isn't worse than the NAS BTW! And that chart is a buy! So I don't know where Prechter's crew are coming from. The stocks in the index are mostly state firms that have been partially privatised by issuing some shares. The growth of private enterprise, FDI etc. isn't much reflected in it. A lot of the state firms have problems.

It seems the few available stocks were inflated up by the public looking for somewhere to put their money (quoted figure of 60 million brokerage accounts) and then the bubble burst.
