That's a very valuable post, Snowshoe. I know in my case it will help me direct my investments wisely. Thanks a million. Phillip Pan was born and raised in New Jersey and graduated from Harvard. His parents are immigrants from Taiwan. Phillip has been getting rave reviews for his reporting on China in the Washington Post. But, I am not sure about his reporting. IMO, it is important that we understand China. Any miscalculations could be very expensive - not only for us but for mankind. It is important for us to understand who this guy Hu is. If he is dangerous - we have to know it - so that we can plan accordingly. We can not afford any miscalculations. What bothers me about Pan's reporting is that he takes from unnamed sources who were reportedly at Hu's speech and draws a lot of conclusions. As for me, I would rather Pan tried to get the whole text of Hu's speech and let us draw our own conclusions. Not that I do not trust Pan, but I think this subject is too important to draw conclusions from this type of reporting. Winning all kinds of awards do not impress me as much as if he had gotten his hands on or were able to assemble the whole text of Hu's speech. That would be real reporting - but chances are Pan would not be getting any awards that way.
