t2, RE: "I have the following points that I don't seem to get any answers for. What if....We see a global technology boom driven by emerging markets"

I think that's what's happening right now - why else would demand have been so strong during a quarter that is typically weak in the USA?

Other consumer companies certainly were feeling the pain of pinched consumer spending due to energy prices, yet Intel still did well.

Why did Intel do so well, while US retailers did so poorly?

- I think China (holiday) levels out the usual US seasonal Q1 dip
- Intel finally has a good product mix - strong Centrino sales, etc.
- Intel cleaned up its act, no stumbles (hurray, finally!)

We're seeing the consumer companies stumble across the board in their earnings report due to the energy pinch, yet Intel is doing quite well. To me, that speaks volumes for Intel's prospects. I think Intc is finally going to be up next.

RE: "just don't know when to get into the chip equipment stocks"

Paul Engel once said if you have a strong stomach you can make a lot of money investing in semiconductor companies. You need a really strong stomach to handle the chip equipment stocks.
