Well I hope Chuck is wrong. My thoughts all along were that this was going to be the greatest social experiment in the history of the world. The ME is going to be transformed forever into either a Democratic type area that is part of the world or it will descend into terrorist hell. I think just up and leaving as some suggest leads to the second option and that isn't what we want at all. As to lying to the American public, Bush has perhaps done that but would you agree that the MSP in doing 0 stories on the good and front paging all the bad is doing the same thing? I mean anybody that reads nothing but the MSP at this point has a worse then warped view on what has gone on and what continues to go on there. I have the same hope as you in your final statement.

Chuck believes the mideast will be the mideast and nothing we do matters mike - Six months ago I felt the same way that chuck does; I would have been happy to vote against Bush if the Democrats had put up a halfway credible candidate who was willing to run on George Aiken's Viet Nam suggestion: We won, now let's leave. However, the Iraqi elections in January, and the events in Lebanon, have given me cause to reconsider. There may very well be a Silent Majority of Arabs/Muslims who are willing to peacefully coexist with us infidels, even including the Israelis. If so, then the neocons' blueprint for the Middle East could make the sacrifice worthwhile.
