The extremes of Orange County make a good story. Values in the US are considerably more diverse than the media portray - it doesn't make a coherent story, like "surface glitz (edging into what some would call bad taste) vs. sprititual values "

Orange County was also the home of Black Flag, a popular punk band.

Values may be different in New Orleans, Alaska, or Vermont.

Just ask long time residents of Fort Worth, Texas what they think of Dallas...

The Germans have managed to waste about 1/4 of a generation of young people with underemployment. Germany used to be a leader in pharmaceuticals - now they are well behind the Swiss and the French. Where's their biotech industry ? Their chemical industry is holding on, however.

I'll take shallow and money grubbing....;-)
