Apologies are not my concern as much as an accurate accounting of recent history. I guess WW2 is 60-70 years old now but it is not an excuse to misstate the facts in a text book to the point where as i understand it, folks in japan believe the US caused WW2 by nuking H&N. That would be like US textbooks denying slavery or the use of nukes for that matter. mike

The day after anzacs landed at Gallipoli, i.e. ninety years ago tomorrow [or today, for you], their invasion was an historical event, and every day that passed subsequently that event receded one day further into history ... you'd think if the turks were as enlightened as you propose, and simply shrugged and said well that was yesterday, and it's history now, there would have been less unpleasantry .... which is probably true, yes you may be on to something here .... it will apply equally however to Ford's 'history is bunk' statement, as from the moment he took the next breath his concept began to lose meaning as it gained historical distance

History is a science, it's like your 'third-udder different equations' in another science, it can be studied well or poorly, applied appropriately or inappropriately, and thusly cause less or more unpleasantries ... just guessing here that these equations can be applied somewhere, don't know for sure, not my science, but any science worth its salt should be able to, so there

They had Helen Clarke on telly last night here, big celebration of history at Suvla Bay, with anzacs and turks and newfies [yes there were newfies there] all together, not an unpleasantry to be seen ... of course people hide them sometimes, got to watch for that ... but they do not hide them in history, must be in some other science

It is unreasonable to imply any sort of equivalence between Mai Lai, and the Rape of Nanking.
