the number of poor minority defendants put to death in this country should evoke some shame

The shame is on those who excuse the behavior of these perpetrators because of the color of their skin. What about their black victims? And in terms of executions, black murderers are executed at a lower rate than white murderers. (Stats and links provided on this fact within the past couple of months.)

you didn't say it's a "shameful story"...

(and yes it is, but i'm not quite sure what aspect of the story you're referring to, the murder or the conviction)

but if you're for the death penalty, and can't read Dobie's story without feeling some shame, you probably ought to change your mind...

you suggested that someone should feel shame at reading the story

one would only feel shame if they were convinced the facts were incontrovertible and that indeed an 'innocent' was executed, a number of us reading the story were unwilling to accept at face value the opinion put forth in the article without doing some further investigation (for which you are apparently grateful)

so can we now conclude that an objective reader can read the story without feeling shame?

I think the number of poor minority defendents put to death in this country should evoke some shame

are you suggesting that there is a racist application of due process? would you care to document the assertion that the number of poor minorities put to death is disproportionate to the number of non minorities committing and being convicted of similar crimes?

Thanks for asking.
