Smithee, That's kind of what I go there for: cheese, produce, wine, condiments, frozen vegetables and fruit, fish, plus some other stuff. For Laz to not like the food at Trader Joe's, I shudder to think what he might like. <g> - Holly

Alan,

Cabot consolidated the "Store Cheese" market.

Until the mid 80's, much of the cheese you got in the country stores was produced locally to that area. The different stores had different tastes. Some very different.

One of the best was a little store in Enosburg Falls. Very sharp, made by a local farmer.

When the Vermont cheesemakers banded together to create a centralized whey processing plant, it started a slide into consolidation that Cabot eventually won.

I miss the variety of the old days when I visit Vermont.
