Who set up the situation in which the mufti came to power? ... threat from outside will tend to bring out support for the stiffest spine to defend from it .... take Clemenceau away from the Versailles equation, and you probably do not get the product of Hitler ... same thing in Palestine ... no one disputes that the natives were poorly led, the question is why they were able to be radicalised, and it's a rhetorical question really, answer is pretty clear to all who review the actual history
