You might take a look at LucidLink. Here is their Home URL
lucidlink.com

They have a free Wireless Client available for download
and use. Look in the Downloads section. The software for
purchase is mostly for sysadmins managing and securing large
wireless networks, configuring access-points and routers, to do MAC address filtering, WEP and WPA, and includes the WPA server
software for authentication. The Client is the same as the one
above.

With windows XP home...go to Start...Control Panel...double left click Network Connections...right click Local Area connection...click properties...you should see the option listed "file and printer sharing for Microsoft networks"

When using wireless hotspots...or if you don't use file sharing or printer sharing on your local network..uncheck it.
