I participated in the war by being born one month before D-Day near Camp Lejeune. The essential facts of the story are all true, as related to me by my father-in-law. chillicothe.med.va.gov The story goes on, as you might imagine. Two years of it were spent at Stalag Luft III, the very same camp from which over 70 British fliers tunneled out and escaped. Most of them were caught and executed. The escape story has been told over and over again, and made into a movie. Someday I hope to resume the story and take Bowmaker and Borsch through some of the lesser-known aspects of life at Stalag Luft III.
