Interesting about the loans. My guess is that the Mexicans had collateral, e.g., a house, or else a good credit record, or else a co-signer. Banks are not dumb.

Shades, Re: Banks. Love those tales from the piney woods. <G> And imagine what a crazy world we live in with these mobs of landscapers everywhere. You wonder where the push for the lending to the illegals comes from and I think I know. The managers of these small town banks belong to all sorts of "mutual appreciation societies", bankers organizations ect. and so they get to go to lots of "seminars" over on Jekyll Island where they are indoctronated by the World Bank type speakers who spin the tale of the benefits to the economy and to the banking industry of "helping the immigrants". These guys go back to Sylvester or wherever and tells his loan officers to loosen up on the requirements for the illegals. Years ago banking was the perfect place for the guy with not a lot on the ball who wanted an easy, undemanding, though not real high paying job with lots of job security. I don't think much has changed except for the job security part. Up in the ranks and at the big banks in the cities are some real sharp cookies though. I think CB is from England and over there fraud is a perk reserved for the upper classes. Here fraud is something that every class can engage in and as you point out, even the illegals can participate. Being that they are illegal anyway and only an overnight car trip to freedom they have no fear of the crossbars hotel. Slagle
