America First didnt work when it was the isolationist/pro-german slogan in the 30s. It doesnt work well in the age of the shrunken world either despite what Pat Buchanan thinks. We cant take care of ourselves alone without dealing with the problems in the world as well. 9/11 teaches us that if nothing else. Doesnt mean you have to go to war each and every time but it does mean you have to deal with the problems that cause war and unrest around the world. Who else will do that, France??
Having said all that, yes we do ignore too many problems at home. Yes the tax burden on the middle class is too high. Yes, this administration imho saved us from post 9/11 depression but the continuation of those same policies forces the fed into higher interest rates and may lead to the next recession sooner than we would all like. Tough world we live in. Mike

AMEN to that Suma..

by the way, the sad part is that as a democracy, the population's best interest is not represented in government... you have lobbies and power groups tilting the decision making to their interest... one example, the same day United Airlines (my favorite airline because it is owned by the employees) was denied a 10B or in loan guarantees, Israel was granted the exact same amount... it was reported in the Wall Street Journal. funny thing was, it was called tough love !

that is why education is crucial... it is every American's duty and responsibility to know and educate others about where his/her tax money is going ... then let the majority rule.
