Yes and No. I think the main reason for trade deficit, China, and slow employment growth is the internet revolution, and associated huge drop of communication costs. It is now a lot more profitable to hire an Indian to do call center-type of job than an American here. This was not the case in the past, with $2/min rate for calls to India. If you can hire 10 teleworkers in India for the price of 1 American, why wouldn't you do that? What can fix it? I don't know. I personally think only making it difficult legally for US companies to do that can fix it.
