I found the same sentiment, rather surprising at first. Even many who have become wealthy, they still carry affinity for Mao. But definitely not for the madam, Chiang Ching. I don't know why, yet.

Actually, not just rural areas, in cities too, many people miss Mao a lot. The albums containing all those old songs of praising Mao have been selling like hot cake. Mao lived his live for Chinese people, not for himself. That is why people miss him too.
