audits showed cigs having very large losses, so they went behind the cashier.

The Safeway here keeps them under central lock and key in front of the Checkouts. Somebody wants a pack, the checker has to leave here checkout, unlock, get them, lock, and come back. Really slows down the checkstand. I have never seen them this tight.

That's an odd question. It suggests that I am disagreeing with you. I have no quarrel with your point that cigarettes are high-theft items and keeping them behind the counter is a time-tested way of stopping that loss. So what "other side" do you have in mind?
